Text Box: Why?
Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because the tabs are pure high-quality aluminum, unlike cans, which consist of aluminum and other alloys. Tabs are also easier to store than whole cans.
Where?
If your local Ronald McDonald House participates in the program, it’s likely cardboard collection containers in the shape of a house have been distributed to schools, community and civic groups and other organizations in your area. Collect pop tabs to drop off at one of these areas, or contact your local House about getting a collection container that you can be responsible for filling through one of your own groups.
How much?
After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. One pound of tabs is worth 57 cents, and one gallon of pop tabs (4,175 tabs) is worth $1.49. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter a check for the total value.

Text Box: Ronald McDonald House
Text Box: Pull-Tab Program
Text Box: Pauline Maxwell knows what to do with the dreaded pull-tab. We usually mutter something under our breath when we find one, but not Pauline. She collects about 70 pounds or more each year, since they brought up the idea at one of our meetings in 2003.
They are collected for the Ronald McDonald House in Orange. The Ronald McDonald House is a home away from home for families of infants and children, who are receiving medical treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses, at area medical facilities. Families are referred to Ronald's house by hospital social workers. The cost per day is minimal, and waived if the family is unable to pay. It is supported by the generous gifts or services provided by the local community. The "Pop Tab Program" is one of their on-going fundraising programs that help support their mission of being a "home away from home."
Ronald McDonald House is located at 383 S. Batavia in Orange and their phone is 714-639-3600. If you would like to contribute, sponsor a meal, send a gift, or volunteer your time give them a call.
